Week three action in the Richmond Adult Soccer Association Summer League’s First Division was highlighted by Binger’s Army prevailing 4-1 over Westside in the Vancouver derby.
Binger’s were full value for the victory, producing the majority of scoring chances and enjoying an edge in possession as well.
They struck first in the 25th minute when Aaron Arnold beat two defenders inside the box and his shot to the far corner was redirected by Anthony Halley.
Westside answered with the equalizer 13 minutes later after high defensive pressure resulted in a Binger’s miscue and Tom Johnson jumped on the turnover.
Army would take a 2-1 lead into halftime after a terrific ball from David Cooke on the left side. Halley pushed the cross into the goal mouth where it went in off a Westside defender for an own goal.
Binger’s added a pair of second half insurance goals 10 minutes apart as midfielders Lance Grisdale and Vikram Puri dominated the centre of the park.
Halley scored his second of the match in the 70th minute when he was left wide open for an uncontested header. Ten minutes later, a Westside hand ball set the table for salty veteran Graham Morrison to step up and enjoy the sweet taste of netting a goal after a not unsubstantial hiatus.
Army keeper and VMSL/RASA legend Christopher O'Connor was rock solid as usua.
In other action, Delta Blaze remain at the top of the table thanks to a a 2-2 tie with Metropolitan FC.
In Division Two player, United Nations beat Bombastic FC 3-2 to take over first place.
