McMath Wildcats capped an unbeaten run in the Richmond Juvenile Girls Volleyball League by prevailing in a five set thriller (25-16, 19-25, 25-10, 22-25, 15-7) over McRoberts in the city championship match.

McMath Wildcats capped a perfect run in the Richmond Juvenile (Grade 9) Girls Volleyball League with a thrilling five-set victory over the McRoberts Strikers in last week’s city final played at Richmond High.
The Wildcats are led by setters: Maia Badyal, Maddi Elcombe and Jacqueline Gabaldon, middle blockers: Tamara Boucher, Elizabeth Kennedy, Regan Gibson and Nicole Soon; and the hard spiking talents of Emma Lo who tallied 13 kills over the final match, along with Megan Man, Jennifer Lum, Carmen Marshall, Madeline Gillis and their two liberos — Jayda Olak and Caitlyn Bradley-Tse.
The girls are co-coached by McMath Grade 12 student Alina Badyal and her father Nav Badyal.
They now make their way to the Vancouver and District Championships at Handsworth Secondary in North Vancouver starting Thursday. They will be joined by the Strikers. A wild card game win would also send Steveston-London to the North Shore.
