A group of Richmond youth are encouraging Richmondites to submit photos and videos featuring uplifting work Richmondites have done amid the pandemic

A group of Richmond youth are calling for photos and videos featuring uplifting behind-the-scenes work done by individuals and community groups amid the pandemic.

The Youth Now program, launched by local not-for-profit organization Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG), offers high school graduates first-hand experience in community development and engagement.

David Yang, a Youth Now program participant, told the Richmond News, although they aren’t able to create an in-person project this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, they will instead make something fun by creating a signature video that highlights the resilience and value of the local community.

“We want to send out a message that despite all the hardships and struggles, people are still coming together and finding ways to create meaningful bonds to help each other out,” said Yang, adding, for people who don’t have any photos or videos, they are welcome to set up a virtual interview with group members.

Another program participant, Alyssa Chen, said many people have contributed a lot to the local community over the past few months. However, their stories haven’t necessarily been heard by others since these people have been “hiding” in the background.

She hopes this project shines a light on people working behind the scenes.

Youth Now would like to get all submissions sent in by late May.

Anyone can submit photos and videos and the final project will be an online video.
