Women vie for wheelchair basketball title at Richmond Oval

North Vancouver's Tara Llanes will be playing at the Richmond Olympic Oval this weekend.

Women’s wheelchair basketball players are vying for a national title this weekend at the Olympic Oval in Richmond.

The competition kicked off Friday morning, and the gold-medal game will take place at noon on Sunday (April 10).

Participating in the event are teams from Quebec – the defending champions – B.C., Ontario, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

B.C.’s team includes Paralympians Kady Dandeneau and Tara Llanes.

There will more than 50 athletes at the tournament including able-bodied athletes as well.

The event includes a girls’ and women’s-only Have-A-Go session on Saturday, where skills, drills and scrimmages will be coached between games.

The event is presented by the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS).
