The warm weather is here to stay in Richmond, as another hot week is forecasted by Environment Canada.
Today in Richmond, temperatures are forecasted to get as high as 25 C and reaching 27 C by the end of the week. As a result, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for an “extended spell of very warm weather.”
According to the federal department, risks associated with the heat wave “are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.”
Signs of heat illness could include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Be sure to drink plenty of water, even before you feel thirsty. Never leave pets or children alone in a parked car and avoid sunburns by staying in the shade and using sunscreen.
In Richmond, stay cool by visiting air conditioned facilities such as community centres or libraries or refer to the city’s map of fountains and places to stay cool.
“It is going to be very hot this week,” said Stephanie Vokey, coordinator of marketing and public relations for the Richmond Public Library. “We do want to remind the public the library is a very welcome, cool space to come as a respite from the heat.”
