Two men have been charged with stealing and trying to sell TransLink Faresaver tickets worth $153,000.

Transit police say Patrick Robert Parry, 46, of Surrey, and James Gordon Hemenway, 40, of Vancouver, allegedly stole the prepaid transit tickets from their shredding company, Urban Impact Recycling in Knox Way in north-east Richmond.

The tickets, which are sold in packets of 10, were supposed to have been destroyed in June 2010.

Both men have each been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. They will appear in court in December.

It has been reported that the two men in question no longer work for the company.
