Two people were arrested in relation to an alleged armed robbery in Steveston over the weekend.

A group of young people in Garry Point Park were allegedly robbed on Saturday by a number of individuals wearing masks.

Community members spotted a large police presence in Steveston on Saturday night, including a helicopter.

According to Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang, police officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. on March 9 to reports of an alleged robbery.

"A group of youths were approached by a number of masked suspects who allegedly produced weapons and demanded their belongings," Hwang told the Richmond News.

The suspects fled in multiple vehicles before police arrived, Hwang added.

The victims were "distraught but unharmed," and police conducted a "comprehensive search."

Ground assets, Lower Mainland Air One and a police dog were deployed for the search.

Two people were arrested and the helicopter located one of the alleged crime vehicles.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
