Two women arrested in East Richmond after driving into a tree

Two were arrested in East Richmond over the weekend.

Two women were arrested on Saturday after allegedly crashing a stolen car in East Richmond and running away from the scene.

Richmond RCMP officers responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 of a vehicle hitting a tree on Smith Drive near McColl Crescent and Hamilton elementary.

Cpl. Dennis Hwang, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP, said two female suspects left the vehicle and fled the scene.

Officers found and arrested one suspect "hidden in foliage" nearby.

The second suspect was found near Westminster Highway and Gilley Road with the help of the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.

"Police determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Surrey earlier that morning," said Hwang.

The investigation of the incident is active and ongoing, according to Richmond RCMP.
