Richmond Fire-Rescue creates a monthly map showing poisonings and overdoses in the city.

Another person died in Richmond in February due to a suspected drug poisoning or overdose, according to statistics released by the BC Coroners Service on Friday.

This follows three deaths in January in Richmond.

In B.C., there were 177 suspected drug poisoning deaths in B.C., down from 200 in January.

Seventy-two per cent of those who died in B.C. from suspected drug poisonings were men.

Richmond Fire-Rescue responded to nine opioid overdoses/poisonings in February, which were clustered near No. 3 Road and Brighouse Park where there is a drop-in centre for homeless people.

Five of the overdoses/poisonings were indoors while four were outdoors, according to Richmond Fire-Rescue.

In its report, the coroner notes there is no indication that safer supply of drugs is contributing to drug toxicity deaths - only three per cent of those who had a toxicology report done had hydromorphone in their system.
