B.C.'s commercial fishing community launched the first annual charity herring sale last weekend in Steveston. The sale raised $35,000 that will all go to the BC Childrens Hospital Foundation to support children with cancer.

By the end of Saturday, the sale had already sold $12,000 of herring and received $8,000 in donations. The event ran both Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Due to generous donations, all proceeds were able to go directly to the foundation. Some items included the fishing vessel, Prosperity, and the fish.

The Prosperity harvested 60 tonnes of herring from the Gulf of Georgia and delivered it to the dock for $10 per 20lb bag. Participants were also able to bring their own buckets.
