Richmond’s Ironwood library branch is closed until further notice after a small fire broke out early Saturday morning.
The fire began in a supply room before any staff or guests were in the library. Fire crews responded quickly, limiting damage to the supply room.
“We’re very appreciative and grateful,” Stephanie Vokey, coordinator of marketing and public relations for the Richmond Public Library, told the Richmond News. “(The fire crew’s) quick response was great for really minimizing that damage.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the branch remains closed while potential smoke damage is assessed and next steps are considered.
“Our other three branches are business as usual,” Vokey said.
Anyone with checked out library items are welcome to return them to another Richmond branch. However, no fines will be charged for Ironwood items until the branch reopens.
While Ironwood’s regular story times are currently cancelled, the Brighouse branch also offers story times on Mondays at 10:30 a.m.
“We want to make sure people aren’t overly inconvenienced,” Vokey said. “We’re really looking forward to opening back up again soon. We know the library is a very popular place in the summer.”
Due to a facility incident, Richmond Public Library's Ironwood branch will be closed until further notice. Please return items to other branches. Holds will be extended and fines not issued for Ironwood items until the branch reopens. #RichmondBC
