Young dancers are being given the chance to dem-onstrate their talents centre-stage during Richmond Youth Dance Company's upcoming season.

After a successful first season, Richmond Youth Dance Company is holding auditions for this year's run on Sept. 7 for youth between the ages of 10 and 18. The first season boasted a sold out showing of First Wings and made appearances at the Children's Arts Festival and Doors Open.

The company is preparing for another exciting year with more performance opportunities and the addition of a new dance teacher, Nathalie Lefevre Gnam.

She currently works as associate artistic director at the Plastic Orchid Factory, and comes from an extensive dance background that includes work with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens De Montreal and the Vancouver International Dance Festival.

Gnam will join returning teacher Miyouki Jego, an expert in the Cecchetti Dance Theatre method.

The City of Richmond formed the company to promote dance as a positive youth activity and arts events as a key part of a healthy community.

Auditions will take place at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate, from 6: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Space is limited, so audition times must be reserved in advance. Call Melanie Burner at (604) 247-8320 to register.
