A second pedestrian has been killed in Richmond in less than a month while trying to cross a main road.

On Sunday, 9 a.m., Richmond RCMP received a report that a pedestrian had been struck while crossing No. 3 Road near Ryan Road.

Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said an 86-year-old man was crossing the road away from any crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The Richmond resident was taken to Vancouver General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officers from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services examined the scene, assisting Richmond's Road Safety Unit with the investigation.

At this point in the investigation, Turley added, it appears that neither alcohol nor speed are factors that contributed to the collision.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into this matter is continuing.

As this is the second pedestrian fatality in Richmond in less than a month, Richmond RCMP is stressing to drivers and pedestrians, the importance of practicing road and pedestrian safety.
