With the theme of “walk your own way,” Richmondites are being invited to take part in an event to raise awareness and funds for people battling dementia.

To mark Brain Awareness Week, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. is hosting the event, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, during the month of May.

The format – with everyone doing their own solo walks instead of a large group walk - will allow anyone across B.C. to participate.

Richmondites can find a time and place for their own solo walk, or they can even set themselves an exercise challenge, such as walking, running or even dancing.

However, they need to ensure their plans adhere to current provincial health guidelines.

An online event on May 30 will celebrate the month of activity.

Barbara Lindsay, interim CEO of the Alzheimer Society of B.C., noted COVID-19 has brought challenges in the past year, particularly for people living with dementia and their care partners.

“Fundraisers like the walk help enable the (Alzheimer) Society to continue providing support and resources, which are needed more than ever,” said Lindsay.

Funds raised through the event will help support the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s programs, education and services for people in communities across the province.
