Richmondite launches golf tournament to ensure more children can have fun outdoors.
A Richmond woman is helping to organize a charity golf tournament this summer in honour of a friend who spent most of his childhood in hospital due to bone diseases.
Annie Ang, along with her other friends, decided to step up this summer by hosting a tournament at Richmond’s Mayfair Lakes on Aug. 4, with a $100,000 fundraising goal for BC Children’s Hospital to expand and accelerate orthopedic research.
“Summer is a perfect time for children to play sports outdoors and have fun, but many children who are affected by acute or chronic conditions can’t fully enjoy themselves, not to mention play sports,” said Ang.
“One of my closest friends spent most of his childhood in a hospital suffering from bone diseases. Luckily, doctors and nurses showered him with love and care, and he recovered afterward.
“However, only he knew how much outdoor happiness he missed while lying in bed to receive treatment.”
Ang added that bone diseases are more common than most people think and she hopes the funds raised “can help transform many children’s lives.
“I don’t want to see any child spend their childhood indoors.”
The tournament ticket is $300 and $1,000 for a group of four. For more information, visit https://secure.bcchf.ca/SHP/index.cfm?Event=GolfForHope.
