Richmond wrestling stars bring extra baggage back from nationals

The Bhullar Wrestling athletes picked up seven medals at the 2022 Canadian Wrestling Championships in Calgary

A Richmond wrestling club returned from the nationals in Calgary with a bit more weight in their baggage.

Bhullar Wrestling – based at No. 5 and Blundell roads – came back with no less than seven medals, including three golds.

The club was competing in the 2022 Canadian Wrestling Championships in the U19, U17 and U15 divisions.

Under the watchful eye of club coaches Jag Bhullar and Oscar Bulaqui, athletes Micah Calapiz, Ethan Cajigas, Riley Jhuty, Kaiya Mannapso, Justine Prasad and Tiana Medeiros represented Richmond with pride.

Micah Calapiz:

Silver, U17, 51kg, Freestyle

Gold, U17, 51kg, Greco-Roman

U17, Most Outstanding Greco-Roman Male Wrestler.

Ethan Cajigas:

Gold, U17, 65kg, Freestyle

Riley Jhuty:

Bronze, U17, 55kg, Freestyle

Kaiya Mannapso:

Gold, U15, 62kg, Freestyle

Silver, U15, 62kg, Greco-Roman

Justine Prasad:

5th place, U17, 65kg, Freestyle

Tiana Medeiros:

Silver, U15, 42kg, Freestyle

Team results:

2nd place U17 Men’s Freestyle (3 points behind first place team Guru Gobind Wrestling Club in Abbotsford)

4th place U15 Women’s Freestyle.
