Richmond city staff will be keeping an eye on the city’s bars and restaurants this weekend to make sure they aren’t holding any Super Bowl events.
“While we are optimistic bar and restaurant owners in Richmond will adhere to the requirements, we will be monitoring the community and watching just to make sure,” said city spokesperson Clay Adams.
He said that last month, establishments were found to be complying with B.C.’s health orders when concerns about a different sports event were raised.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said Monday that no one should be planning any sort of Super Bowl party this weekend.
“Hold off on the Super Bowl celebrations this year. You should not be planning, whether it’s at home or in a bar or restaurant, viewings of the Super Bowl,” she said.
“If we are not able to control this and start seeing spread again, we can undo all the good work that we have done.”
If the public does have any concerns about a business or home hosting a party this weekend, said Adams, they can e-mail bylaws at [email protected] between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., daily, or call the Richmond RCMP non-emergency line.
Late last month, there were concerns that some liquor establishment across B.C. were possibly selling tickets for the screening of a mixed martial arts event, said Adams. City staff then went to several sports bars and establishments to make sure nothing was planned.
“We received a good reception from all visited and found nothing of concern,” said Adams.
