Highway 99 is expected to be closed at the Steveston overpass for eight nights in the coming week while 50-tonne concrete girders are installed along the highway.
This is part of Phase 2 of the construction of the five-lane Steveston overpass in south Richmond.
The highway will close on Friday, July 18 at 10 p.m. and will re-open on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. The same closures are expected overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
Starting Sunday evening, the highway will close again at 10 p.m. but it will re-open at 4:30 a.m. This pattern will continue until the morning of Saturday, July 26.
Traffic will be re-routed north- and southbound onto the off-ramps and back onto the Highway 99 via the on-ramps, bypassing the construction work.
There will be intermittent traffic stoppages on the southbound Highway 99 on-ramp to allow the girders to be transported into position. These stoppages will be kept to a maximum of five minutes.
East-west travel on Steveston Highway will be maintained for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Existing transit stops will be maintained in all directions.
Flatiron Construction is installing 11 main span concrete girders that are 35 metres long and weigh 50 metric tonnes each as part of the Steveston Interchange project.
