Local sports idols and heroes will soon have a bricks and mortar place to be celebrated and remembered.

The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame will be built within the planned Richmond Olympic Experience museum at the Richmond Olympic Oval, slated to open next year.

The sports council will appoint a nomination committee — made up of its own members and one council member — to select nominees in the categories of athlete, builder and team.

A list of criteria will guide the sports council in making decision and once a person/team is chosen, a plaque will adorn the wall with their achievements.

City council is expected to pass the motion on the matter next week.

The project isn't expected to cost much money, in and of itself ($200 per plaque).
