A Richmond figure skater has achieved a top 10 finish in his first ever ISU Junior Grand Prix event.

Connaught Skating Club member David, 15, was competing in Courcheval, representing Canada.

Coached by mother and son team, Eileen and Keegan Murphy, David finished 12th in the short program, ninth in the free program, leading to a 10th overall placing.

According to his coaches, this was a “huge achievement for a skater at their first Junior Grand Prix.

“He used his exceptional performance and skating abilities to compliment his technical skills to earn his way into the top 10.”

The competition in France, added his coaches, “was a great opportunity for him to build on his international reputation as a strong competitor and an exceptional performer.”

David debuted for Canada on the international stage this spring in Egna, Italy, winning the gold medal in the novice men advanced category.
