Two Richmond residents are preparing to rappel 200 feet down a skyscraper for a children's charity.

Chelsea Nilausen and Mandy Wong are among around 80 people readying themselves to scale down the skyscraper in aid of Easter Seals as part of the charitys Drop Zone event.

Nilausen has already reached her minimum fundraising goal of $1,500, but is hoping to raise even more.

While Wong will be hoping to raise as much as possible as part of a team called Superheroes in Training, which is hosting several fundraising events to support the Easter Seals.

The Drop Zone is a fundraiser that appeals to adventurous types to raise money for the Easter Seals House and Easter Seals Camps.

The house takes in children and families who need to travel to Vancouver from far-flung places to get medical treatment. The camps gather together children with disabilities for a week of summer fun.

The charity gives participants the title of "Superhero for the day" for their efforts and courage, and inducts them into the exclusive Easter Seals Superhero Club.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, Richmonds superheroes will join the others to rappel 20 storeys down the side of the AXA building at 999 West Hastings St. in Vancouver.

Organizers say to expect the scene to have a "Gotham City" feel to it.

Since the project got started six years ago, 392 superheroes have raised more than $1.1 million for children with disabilities.

Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers and to those who wear the best superhero costumes.
