Richmond RCMP report a drop in break and enters earlier this year

Less residential break-ins, but an increase in commercial areas in January.

Fewer residential break-ins have been reported in Richmond earlier this year, according to the latest Richmond RCMP data.

In a Mar. 15 report that went to Richmond city council’s community safety committee, Richmond RCMP said there has been a 21 per cent drop in residential break-ins in January compared to the same period in 2021.

According to the report, there were 31 residential break-and-enters in January, a six per cent decrease from December. 

Richmond RCMP said there were also 30 commercial break-and-enters in January – a decrease of 12 percent from December, but a drastic increase of 30 percent from January 2021.

The report said “no patterns or trends have been identified” related to the break-ins and that both the 31 residential and 30 commercial break-ins are “within the expected range.”

Meanwhile, police also reported 10 robbery incidents in January, which is up three incidents from December and an increase of five incidents from January 2021.

Richmond RCMP said the number of robberies in January is “within the expected range,” and that no patterns or trends have been identified.
