Richmond police investigating threat aboard Flair flight at YVR

Passengers were held on the plane for more than two hours before they were cleared to leave.

A "possible threat" was reported on a Flair flight from YEG to YVR last night.

Possible threat reported on a flight from Edmonton to YVR on Friday night is being investigated by Richmond RCMP.

According to a Richmond RCMP release, frontline officers from the YVR detachment responded to a report of a possible threat against someone on Flair Flight 2799 shortly before midnight.

“An individual on this flight received electronic communications on their mobile device of a possible threat and promptly advised the proper authorities,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang, Richmond RCMP spokesperson.

A statement from YVR confirmed that a "security incident" took place on the flight, which arrived at 11:44 p.m. The plane was held on the taxiway until approximately 1 a.m. when it was cleared to the gate. Passengers were held until approximately 2:15 a.m. before they were allowed to leave the plane.

“Threats or perceived threats, in any form, will be fully investigated. The safety of the flight crew, passengers, and the public will always be of paramount concern for us,” said Hwang. 

The investigation is active and ongoing.
