Your Richmond News has a new leader at the helm.
Gary Hollick this week took over the reins from Lori Chalmers, who moved on from the News to become publisher of Vancouver-based Western Living magazine.
Hollick is no stranger to the media industry, having steered the Surrey Now newspaper to success between 2002 and 2011, during which time the Now was recognized as the largest regional newspaper in North America.
Hollick, 50, was previously the Now's director of marketing for five years and, prior to that, was a successful proprietor of numerous businesses in Kimberley and was a realtor in Calgary.
He began his newspaper career in Calgary and later moved to Kelowna to publish a local weekly. He then joined CanWest Publications and moved his family to the Lower Mainland 18 years ago.
"I expect the Richmond News to be a reflection of the community it serves," said Hollick.
"It brings a trustworthy source of information to the residents of Richmond that can't be found anywhere else.
"I'm delighted to see the Richmond staff are dedicated to making Richmond a great place to live."
The paper's involvement in giving back to the community has been paramount over the years, added Hollick, and is "something I'm hoping to try to expand even further."
Hollick, who lives in Delta - where he was recognized as the Business Person of the Year in 2002, is known for wearing many hats at once in the community he serves and don't be surprised to see him popping up in Richmond in the coming weeks and months as he immerses himself into the city.
Hollick and his wife of 31 years, Nita, have two sons, Denny and Corey, who are both currently attending postsecondary studies.
