Richmond couple and musicians Cheryl Morgan and Suzanne Richard won the $1 million Lotto 6/49.

Local Richmond musicians are celebrating their $1 million Lotto 6/49 win with an Italy trip.

Cheryl Morgan and Suzanne Richard, who play together in their band Sweet Potatoes, discovered they won the Mar. 22 Lotto 6/49 draw during their grocery trip at Safeway.

"I gave (the ticket) to the gentleman at the store and it shut down the system," said Morgan.

"We didn't believe it," Richard added.

The Richmond couple bought the winning ticket from Seafair Smoke and Mixer on No. 1 Road.

Aside from a trip to Italy, Morgan and Richard plan to each purchase a new car and pay off their mortgage with part of the winnings.

While they have yet to tell anyone about their exciting win, they plan on "sharing some of their prize with loved ones."

When asked how they felt about the win, Richard said they are "calm about the future" and it makes them feel "secure."
