A Richmond-based golf coach has been named the British Columbia Teacher of the Year.

Nathan Leonhardt, who grew up in Richmond and runs the Tour Development Academy, was given the accolade at an awards ceremony this week.

Earlier in the month, Leonhardt also won the 2022 PGA of BC Teacher of the Year award for Vancouver & Lower Mainland.

Leonhardt said there has been a lot of "hard work over the last few years, but very worth it and very rewarding.

"I’m so grateful to be able to do what I love, and to be awarded for it is unbelievable."

The national awards will be announced this winter, where Leonhardt is a finalist for the Canadian Teacher of the Year award.

Leonhardt teaches Richmond’s Daniel Xu, who recently won the BC Juvenile Championship (under 17) and has been one of the top juniors in B.C. this season.
