Employees at Dollarama stores in Richmond are excited about the bonus from their company this month for their hard work amid the pandemic.

Last week, the discount chain announced a one-time gratitude bonus for its over 26,000 store employees across Canada for their dedication throughout the pandemic.

The company raised its dividend and reported a higher third-quarter profit that beat analyst expectations.

Under this year’s bonus program, full-time employees will receive $300 and part-time workers $200.

A store manager from Dollarama at Bridgeport Road told the Richmond News that it’s “very exciting news,” but wasn’t allowed to comment further.

The bonus comes as the retailer raised its quarterly dividend to 4.7 cents per common share, up from 4.4 cents.

“I wish to recognize our people for their efforts and dedication as the pandemic has become our new reality and with COVID-19 safety measures now part of our everyday operating procedures,” Dollarama president and CEO Neil Rossy said in a statement.

Dollarama expects to open between 60 and 65 net new stores before the end of 2020, Rossy said.
