One of Canada’s largest plant-based events is taking place in Vancouver this weekend, and several Richmond businesses are taking part.

Planted Expo is hosting its seventh exhibition, featuring more than 200 vegan brands, on Nov. 20 and 21.

Richmond organizations, including vegan-based hair salon Vero and Co, Herbaland, and AlgaBloom, will be setting up booths for those who wish to know more about their visions and how their companies support the global vegan movement.

At the event, there will be speakers, leading vegan product creators, plant-based cookbook authors and more.

Soheyl Mottahedeh, co-owner of Richmond-based AlgaBloom International, said they want to share their knowledge and their vision of using algae as a future food option.

“We want people to appreciate why we care so much about our food and how a small amount of natural resources can go so far for our lives,” said Mottahedeh.

“We invite people who are curious about what algae is. We’ll also have a blue spirulina on display, to sample and learn more about the importance of using natural resources on this planet.”

Meanwhile, Stevan Mirkovich, co-owner and chief relational officer of PlantedLife.com, said this is an “incredible time in history” where more people are interested in learning about the plant-based lifestyle with some transitioning into it.

“Hosting the Planted Expo in 2021, and finally returning to a live format where individuals can interact, emphasizes how we must begin to look at change within ourselves and how it can impact the world around us,” said Mirkovich.

“The speakers we have gathered and the brands at the event provide many opportunities for attendees to learn the many ways they can introduce a plant-based lifestyle into their own lives.”

Planted Expo will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, 1055 Canada Place, on Nov. 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets can be bought online at https://plantedlife.com/

Proof of vaccination will be required from everyone ages 12 and up.
