Health Canada has seized unauthorized products from Tokyo Beauty three times.

Health Canada claims a Richmond beauty shop has been selling unauthorized health products, including one that contains an opioid, and now city council will consider a 30-day business license suspension.

A special council meeting will be held on Nov. 14 to look at suspending the licence of Nagoya Trading Ltd, which operates as Tokyo Beauty on Westminster Highway just east of No. 3 Road.

A warning about nine unauthorized products at Tokyo Beauty was issued by Health Canada in September.

One of the unauthorized products, Baibao Neng Gold A for Relief of Cold Symptoms, contained an ingredient similar to codeine, which is an opioid.

Previous seizures by Health Canada of unauthorized health products took place in February 2019 and March 2021.

In a report going to city council, city staff note they were not advised of the previous seizures, which is why there was no recommendation of suspending the store’s licence previously.
