Do you know why it was important to build homes in Burkeville close to the airport?
The homes in Burkeville were built to address a World War II housing shortage, according to the Richmond Museum.
These homes were built because the aviation industry needed its workers and families close to the airport due to the wartime shortage of gasoline and rubber.
Due to the close proximity to the airport, workers could walk to the Boeing Aircraft Plant in half an hour.
