Fun fact about Richmond...
Do you know what most settlers planted in the 1800s in Richmond?
In the 1800s, most settlers planted orchards in the city, including in Terra Nova, according to the Richmond Museum.
The Mellis family especially had the largest orchard on Lulu Island with at least 100 apple, cherry and pear trees.
It wasn't until the 1950s that farmers transformed fields to the south into commercial vegetable gardens.
