Five taekwondo athletes from Josiah Kicks Academy have been selected for Team Canada's 2025 Taekwondo World Championships.

Five Richmond taekwondo athletes are heading to the world championships to represent Canada this fall.

Richmond-based Josiah Kicks Academy athletes Amina Yu, Dustin Chiang, Iveta Griffith, Kaitlyn Li and Maanraj Sidhu are competing in the 2025 ITF Taekwondo World Championships held in Croatia from Oct. 7 to 11.

The athletes were selected for Team Canada after competing at the National championships in Lévis, Que., this month.

"I'm super proud as a coach, having these competitors only compete over the past two years at local tournaments and now being selected for Team Canada," said Josiah Davis, coach and founder at Josiah Kicks.

Davis told the Richmond News these five athletes represent five out of nine athletes who were selected from B.C.

"Their passion, perseverance, and performance left a lasting impression on the delegation, earning them the incredible honour of wearing the maple leaf on the world stage."

The athletes and students of Josiah Kicks will be doing a car wash every Saturday, starting this weekend, to raise funds to cover the costs of airfare, accommodations, training camps, uniforms and tournament fees for the world championships.

Car wash is by minimum donation of $10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 150-11780 Hammersmith Way, just south of Ironwood Plaza.

An online GoFundMe page has also been set up to raise funds.
