The provincial government is considering allowing small secondary homes on farmland.

The Ministry of Agriculture said secondary homes would support farmers and non farmers living in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

This would, however, be contingent on support from local governments and would not need approval from the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC).

The second home wouldn't have restrictions on who could live there, provided it was approved by the local government.

The proposed policy comes from a collaboration between the Union of B.C. Municipalities, the ALC and the BC Agriculture Council.

Feedback on the proposal can be sent to [email protected] by April 17.
