Plans have been unveiled for Richmond's latest community park.

The London Landing Waterfront Park - which is being built at the expense of the current dirt bike park at the foot of No. 2 Road - will cost almost half a million dollars and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2014.

Plans for the 1.5-acre park, which will eventually be called Kawaki Waterfront Park after the former fish processing plant in the area, were presented to city council this week.

It's being built and paid for by developers Oris as part of a deal which allowed the company to construct apartments on the land adjacent to the park.

The City of Richmond will foot the $20,000 estimated annual maintenance costs for the new park.

Featuring a lawn area, the new park will have marine themed decorations, benches and a promenade along the dyke. The current dirt bike park will eventually be relocated, also at Oris' expense. However, no such relocation plan has been formed.
