Richmond RCMP is asking for witnesses or dash camera footage after a pedestrian died following a collision with a vehicle on Saturday evening.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26, police, along with their collision investigation and analysis teams, were called to the intersection of No.2 and Andrews roads, where a pedestrian had been struck.

According to the RCMP, a female pedestrian was hit when she was crossing at a marked crosswalk.

She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but has since died.

The driver, said RCMP, remained at the scene and was cooperative.

Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors in the collision.

Const. Kenneth Lau, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP, said road conditions are not ideal during this season and people need to be “extra careful.”

“As a driver, when you approach a marked crosswalk or intersection, please take the extra measures to give yourself more reaction time,” said Lau.

“Slow down, look for any pedestrians and try to make eye contact with them just to confirm if they are crossing or not before going through.”

Richmond RCMP CCIT is asking anyone with information on this incident to contact them at 604-278-1212 or email [email protected] quoting file number 2020-35166.
