A Canadian non-profit just received US$1,000 after being nominated by Hilton Vancouver Airport.
For Hilton's Travel with Purpose Week, Hilton Vancouver Airport employees decided to partner with Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup to clean up Middle Arm Dyke Trail earlier this week. The team also successfully nominated Ocean Wise for the 2022 Hilton Global Foundation Action Grant.
"Every day, we see the impact Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup has in our community, and we truly felt they were a deserving organization," Chris Perna, general manager at the Hilton Vancouver Airport, told The Richmond News.
"Not only do their efforts make Richmond a wonderful community to live and work in but they also have a huge impact on this city as a top travel destination in Canada.”
Laura Hardman, Ocean Wise's director of plastics, said the non-profit is "very pleased" to be the only Canadian recipient of the grant for its shoreline cleanup program.
“Our plastics program is a holistic approach that ranges from local shoreline cleanups to one-on-one support to the hospitality industry to identify and address unnecessary plastic waste,” Hardman added.
Ocean Wise is one of 50 recipients of this year's grant. The grant is provided to local organizations that are committed to destination stewardship by "improving travel destinations and creating a positive impact on the people and communities they serve," according to the media release.
