A new 7-Eleven looks set to open a busy gas station in Richmond.

An application was lodged with the City of Richmond by 7-Eleven Inc. a few months ago to rezone the Esso gas station at No. 1 Road and Blundell to allow an “expanded convenience store.”

A Richmond News reader contacted the newsroom on Wednesday to say he was in the gas station last night and, after spotting new equipment next door, he was told by staff that a 7-Eleven would be opening.

The News has reached out to 7-Eleven’s corporate head office to ask when the store might open, assuming the rezoning goes ahead as anticipated.

The new store will be welcome news to local 7-Eleven fans after the recent loss of the very popular corner store chain on Steveston Highway and No. 1 Road earlier this year.

That closure came not long after the shuttering of the 7-Eleven at No. 3 and Williams roads after more than 50 years in business.
