Join Richmonds mayor for a healthy walk around Minoru Park to mark and celebrate Move For Health Day on Thursday, May 10.

As well as the walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event will also feature a variety of activities to get everyone moving.

Richmond is known for being one of the healthiest communities in Canada our residents, on average, live longer than anywhere else in the nation, said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

In Richmond, we all seem to share a passion for active lifestyles. As a city, we offer a variety of ways for people to embrace healthy lifestyles through our parks and recreation programs and facilities.

By celebrating Move For Health Day, we hope to inspire everyone to continue to be active on a daily basis.

Move for Health Day is a worldwide initiative to encourage and promote the benefits of physical activity.

The City of Richmond is working in partnership with the Richmond School District, Vancouver Coastal Health and the Richmond Fitness and Wellness Association to host the May 10 free community celebration.

The warm-up to the Mayors Walk will begin at 11:45 a.m. with a zumba demonstration. After the walk, participants are encouraged to visit the information booths by local service providers providing details on how to stay active and healthy.

In addition to this event, all Richmond businesses, schools and residents are being encouraged to get their organizations active by participating in the Move For Health Day Community Challenge. Every hour of exercise or physical activity on Thursday, May 10 can be tallied and emailed to [email protected] with all participants being eligible for draw prizes.
