MLA Reid runs again in election

Veteran Liberal says better access to the Massey Tunnel is vital before she retires

Linda Reid is doing it again.

Richmond-East's longest serving MLA has once again stepped up to the podium and announced she will run for reelection this spring.

"There's so much more to be done," said Reid from her Richmond constituency office Tuesday.

"First off, we have to improve access to the tunnel - lots of work is already underway.

"I'm proposing better access points to alleviate the congestion on Steveston Highway."

Reid is as passionate about politics today as she was when first elected more than two decades ago, back in 1991. "I love it," said Reid. "I love problem-solving and getting things done.

"I want to continue to build on the solid record that our party has built, and I want to help Premier Christy Clark build on that legacy."

Over the past four years, Reid has held the post of Legislature's Deputy Speaker. Her main focus continues to be on "supporting children, families, and local agriculture in Richmond."

There is, however, one post that has eluded her thus far.

"I absolutely want to be the Minister of Education," she said.

"That is still my dream.

"I want to get people excited about education and that's where I think there's great opportunity to do that."

Reid isn't the only BC Liberal Party MLA to place her hat in the ring once again.

MLAs Jane Thornthwaite and Ralph Sultan will also run in the upcoming provincial election in May 2013.
