An accessible washroom and electrical room is under construction at Steveston Community Park.

While the new playground at the Steveston Community Park is already rebuilt and open to the public, the public washrooms are currently under construction.

The City of Richmond has awarded a $2.77 million contract to Scott Construction to build the washroom and integrate it with an electrical and fibre optic cable room.

This is part of the overall budget for the new Steveston Community Centre and Library, which is currently under construction.

The accessible washroom/electrical room will be 1,125 square feet in size and should be completed by January, according to the city.

The electrical distribution centre will provide power to the Net Shed building and will be the city’s fibre cable network hub for the Net Shed, the Steveston Outdoor Pool, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, the martial arts centre, the Steveston Post Office, and the Tram building.

Included in the budget are landscaping and the installation of EV charging stations.
