A Richmond businessman decided to kick off the Lunar New Year by making other people’s lives better through a donation.

Tony Lau donated $10,000 to the Richmond Hospital Foundation, which will benefit the hospital’s brand new Medical Imaging Centre.

The centre, home to inpatient beds and an expanded surgical suite, will be built to accommodate more than 200,000 visits per year, compared to just over 125,000 visits today.

Lau, who founded Insurance Agencies Ltd 40 years ago, said the local hospital has been a fundamental pillar of the community, with many of his clients and staff “counting on the hospital.”

Lau’s contribution is also part of the fundraising initiative to match the previous $10,000 donation from Gore Mutual Foundation, a charitable arm of Gore Mutual Insurance Company.
