Operation Kidsafe is coming to Richmond for a weekend of free child safety events.

The event runs in conjunction with the Vancouver Police Department and provides top tips for both children and parents.

It brings with it electronic systems to digitally fingerprint and photograph a child in 30 seconds or less with no ink and no film.

The family then, as well as having a quality set of prints that last a lifetime, will have a finished product in a letter size document with the child's digital fingerprints and photo.

The quality is so good, say the organizers, the prints can be scanned into the National Crime Computer if the child is ever missing.

Education will be the focus of the event, so each parent receives the top tips for safety.

Operation Kidsafe's national program director, Mark J. Bott, will be at the event in Richmond at Dueck GM, 12100 Featherstone Way on Friday, Dec. 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bott was on the original Amber Alert launch and has helped write and pass the toughest laws to keep predators behind bars.
