Two drop-in style information sessions, scheduled for next week, will give Richmond residents the chance to learn more about the new George Massey Crossing Project and Highway 99 improvements.
The first of the two sessions will be held at Richmond Olympic Oval Wednesday, Feb. 5, while the second will take place at the Coast Tswwassen Inn in Delta Thursday, Feb. 6. Both sessions will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, community members, stakeholders and the public can learn about the provincial government’s plans for the first stage of the project, designed to reduce congestion on either side of the existing tunnel.
The sessions will also provide the results of work done to date, and the next steps for selecting a preferred long-term.
Ministry staff will also be on-hand to answer any questions.
A task force made up of Metro Vancouver mayors first endorsed an eight-lane immersed-tube tunnel — one of six short-listed options — to replace the current, aging Massey Tunnel last October.
That replacement option was then endorsed by Metro Vancouver’s board last November. The board then recommended the option to the provincial government.
Information session materials will be available online starting Feb. 5, at https://engage.gov.bc.ca/masseytunnel/waystoparticipate/
