Tides are expected to be particularly high in Richmond this weekend, but the city says it’s prepared.

City staff say they will undertake regular patrols of the diking network and will keep an eye on Richmond’s “drainage conveyance system.”

Flood panels will also be installed at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site and will remain in place until early 2019, after the high tides have passed.

Richmond resident Clinton Johnson noticed high tides while walking in Steveston on Thursday and sent a photo into the Richmond News, noting that “the new wall held it back great.”

“Residents are advised to be cautious when on or around the water during high tide or storm events for their personal protection,” says a city statement.

Broken water mains, sewer problems and downed trees should be reported to the city’s 24 hour emergency line at 604-270-8721.
