Richmond could see between 100 to 120 mm of rain, according to a weather warning issued by Environment Canada.
The agency issued a rainfall warning for Richmond and much of Metro Vancouver early Friday morning, as an intense low-pressure system with subtropical moisture brings heavy rain to the region.
Thursday night also saw rain, at times heavy, due to a warm front associated with this system.
While there will be a break in the rain Friday afternoon, a cold front associated with the low-pressure system will return Friday night, bringing another round of heavy rain that, according to the agency, will last until around midday Saturday.
“Total rainfall amounts for these events will be near 60 to 120 mm for the Fraser Valley, 130 mm for Howe Sound, 90 mm for Gibsons and 100 to 120 mm for parts of Metro Vancouver,” reads the rainfall warning.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” it continues. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”
