A crosswalk honouring veterans could be installed in Richmond city centre, near the cenotaph.
City staff are recommending the crosswalk on No. 3 Road at Anderson Road be emblazoned with two maple leaves and the words “Lest We Forget.”
The proposed design has received positive feedback from stakeholders, including the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 291, according to a city staff report.
The cost of installing the sidewalk will be $20,000. City staff estimate it will cost $3,200 annually to maintain the crosswalk, given it's a high-traffic area.
The proposal will be dealt with at next week’s public works and transportation committee meeting.
If approved by council, the city plans to install it this summer.
