Richmond is looking into a pilot project that will allow people to drink alcohol in five parks this summer.

This is on the agenda for Monday's general purposes committee held at Richmond City Hall at 4 p.m.

But before that, Dr. Meena Dawar, medical health officer for Richmond, is providing an update on the number of overdose deaths in Richmond.

Dawar will also talk about how the province plans to implement a "health care first" approach after the decriminalization of illicit drugs and the number of overdoses in residential homes versus on the street or in modular housing.

Meanwhile, another Richmond business on Alexandra Road is applying to get its business hours extended and a seasonal patio permit.

Grill Party wants a seasonal patio area with 20 seats that will allow them to serve alcohol and food between April 1 and Oct. 31 every year. In addition, they want to extend their business hours from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Public hearing (Monday at 7 p.m.)

A public hearing is being held for several development projects and rezoning in Richmond on Monday.

Among the list is Fougere Architecture seeking permission to rezone 10611 and 10751 River Dr. from an industrial storage zone to a low to mid-rise apartment.

The proposal for the area includes one four-storey and two six-storey apartment buildings with a one-storey amenity building.

The developers are proposing 181 units, including 150 strata, 13 market rental and 18 low-end market rental units, according to a city staff report.
