Co-pilot, 26, dies

Matt Robic succumbed after 3 weeks in intensive care

The co-pilot of a Northern Thunderbird Air flight that crashed on approach to Vancouver International Airport last month has died.

Matt Robic, 26, died in hospital Wednesday after nearly three weeks in intensive care.

Vancouver Coastal Health confirmed the death by telephone Wednesday evening.

Robic was one of nine people pulled from a small plane that crashed and burst into flames just short of the airport on Russ Baker Way in Richmond on Oct. 7.

Pilot Luc Fortin, 44, died at the scene of severe fire related injuries, the B.C. Coroner's Office said.

Fortin was remembered as a loving family man and enthusiastic outdoorsman, who loved to explore offroad, camp, downhill ski and mountain bike.

Seven passengers were treated in hospital. Two were released shortly after the accident, while the most seriously injured is still undergoing treatment at G.F. Strong rehabilitation centre in Vancouver. Flight 204 aborted its journey from YVR to Kelowna after experiencing engine trouble.
