A property owner on Severn Drive has been ordered to clean up her yard.

Shipping containers, furniture, derelict vehicles, scrap metal – these are just a few of the items the City of Richmond wants a property owner on Severn Drive to get rid of.

The property has been the subject of 15 complaints about unsightliness over the last 13 years, and the property has been cleaned up twice in the past by the city.

But the most recent order has been appealed by the property owner’s son and Richmond city council will hear the appeal in two weeks.

The order to clean up the property, located close to No. 4 and Williams Road in the South Arm area, was issued on April 22.

This latest demand from the city to clean up the property started in November 2019 and an order to comply with the unsightly premises bylaw was issued in January 2020.

In October, the city went in to start cleaning it up at which point the owner’s son, Edward Wong, said he’d do it.

However, in April, it was found once again to be non-compliant with the bylaw and another order was issued.

This time, the owner’s son has appealed the order to the city and council will hear the appeal at a special council meeting on June 21.

If council upholds the order to clean up the property, at 10100 Severn Dr., it will be cleaned by the city and the owner will be billed.
