Cleaning the Great Canadian Shorelines in Richmond

More than 250 people volunteered for the big Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup national launch at Iona Beach on Saturday.

Organized by the Vancouver Aquarium and the World Wildlife Fund, the cleanup is an annual event that takes place across scores of locations in Canada.

At the launch site in Richmond, about 853 kilograms of shoreline litter was combed up by the volunteers, which included families and workers from places such as YVR.

Many weird items are discovered every year during the cleanup and Saturday was no different when some of the volunteers found a giant wheel that perhaps used to belong to a monster truck. The cleanups across B.C. carry on until Sept. 23 and people can participate by logging onto www.shorelinecleanup.ca/en/search/cleanups.
